Description

HUN-REN Wigner RCP’s Regard gaseous tracking detector development team has been constructing particle detectors for almost two decades. Part of the development is a contribution to fundamental research, but there is also a growing emphasis on applied research, particularly in the field of muography. Since the pioneering measurements of the first field-use muon detector almost 15 years ago, there has been very impressive progress in both hardware and data processing and interpretation software. At present, the Wigner-built detector system is the largest geophysical instrumentation system in the world at the Sakurajima volcano in Japan, and more than ten detectors are continuously measuring in Hungary and six other countries, mainly for geophysical purposes. The presentation will give an insight into our achievements and current development directions.
