Notes:

  • Clara presents latest Virtual IPM simulation results for various B-fields (uniform, MDXL and triplet aka rolls roys)
  • A clear analytical explanation of verious field-force terms (EXB and accelleration drifts) presented
  • Field homogeneity is superior in rolls royce magnet design, giving lowest profile error
  • We also see that at the edge of the timepix, the MDXL based profiles have transverse shifts wheras the rolls royce perform much better
  • Conclusion: MDXL doesn't meet the profile error requirements. Dominique suggested to make doublet with as good field homogenity as the one in triplex, he will go and do some studies and come back. To be followed up on magnet studies in ~1 month time. The reason to go for additional study of doublet magnet is that it might be able to save on number of power converters.
  • It is advised that we start looking into EPC power converter options - can we have knobs or trim coils to adjust the field by 5-10 % ? These are polaris power converters. (Gunn will check with SY-EPC, contact: Gilles ?)
  • Also check with the operations if they will comfortable with fixed magnet configuration, guessing that the PS beam and LHC beam are much different in energy, LHC having 450GeV beam, we might not have to worry about it. (Gunn will check with LHC beam optics/operation)
  • Preparation meeting for HL-LHC BGI review has Dominique magnet studies presented (link ?)
  • Christine commented on the conceptual design: a round tank is perfect symmetric pillbox cavity and will create resonance peaks (can be calculated just from the radius). Teresa will start making a design based on a non-round chamber for the 1st iteration.
  • Clara will do some more simulations to check effect of having beam pipe vertically off-centerd in the magnet.
  • ML will setup a follow up meeting on RF impedance sometime next week
