WP3 meeting

Europe/Zurich

Warm magnets:

Situation looks rather OK: excepting MSI septa, spare magnets are ready to be installed for all resistive magnets. The radiation dose in MQW is lower than intially expected, so it seems safe to relay on available spare magnets antil the end lf HL-LHC

Magnetic measurements:

Rotating shafts

  • Q2 series shaft, some minor improvements needed (change the wheels (ok for carbon fiber, not ok for fiber glass), adjuts the lenght of the half shells). Not implemented for MQXFB04 but they should be able to implement it for the next magnets.
    • Interesting detail: they change from carbon fiber to fibergalss because of eddy currents in the carbon fibers. They were not important for field errors, but the torque needed by the motor to rotate the shaft at 1 Hz is too high.
  • D2 series shaft, all components should be available in 3 weeks. Then 2 weeks for shaft, so in 8 weeks, well before D2
  • D1 and CP: the series shaft available in october 2024, if it is not ready for the test is not critical, since all magnets were already measured before and an other shaft with less precision can be used

Quench antenna

  • New Q2 quench antenna (longitudinal localization 1 cm precision) ready in November 2024
  • For D2, if we use the rotating coil as quench atenna is 1.2 m resolution. The rotating shaft can be equipped with PCB flex to improve localization in the ends. Less than 10 kCHF but we need to decide
