Fast BCT

  • The fast BCT consolidation comprises 70 devices
  • The current system uses TRIC cards with 10.6 ENOB ADCs
  • The current system is also FPGA size limited and the algorithm and data storing is at half rate
  • The consolidation request has been submitted and will be discussed soon
  • The proposed architecture uses 4 ADC channels per carrier reducing the required number of crates
  • The BW required is from 1Hz to 30MHz
  • After analysis it was decided that the best strategy is to have a fixed gain amplifier for the mezzanine and adapt in the analogue front-end
  • The selected/proposed ADC is LTC2107 from Linear. The ADS42LB69 was considered, but have an INL of 4 ENOBs, which is not compatible with the requirements of the project, and a 0.5dB drop at DC

Action on Marek: contact analogue to check the expected lifetime of the selected chip

CPS BPM DAQ presentation

  • Limiting the sampling rate to 210Msps, max of the chip proposed for the fBCT (LTC2107), would not be a problem for the BPM systems
  • Both ADC have enough analogue BW for under-sampling, which is requirement for some of the systems
  • 4 PU per carrier from the current 2 would allow to maintain the same space in the crates: each carrier have double width compared to current system
  • The preferred ADC is ADS42LB69
  • Commercial mezzanines with the proposed ADC are available, even from Switzerland (IOxOS)
  • The proposed ADC (ADS42LB69) is a double core which reduces assimmetries adue to drifts between the opposite electrodes processing chain, while the one proposed for the fBCT is a single core
  • IOxOS would provide the full documentation with NDA
  • Phase synchronicity (or fixed relation) between modules is a requirement for AD/ELENA
  • RF is using fixed frequency sampling and it would be good to align for both BPM and fBCT: this should be ok, but the possibility to bypass the PLL is considered a plus
  • the RF-SoC should be re-evaluated as the costestimate is now reduced with the availability of SoM from IOxOS
  • IoX mezzanine is used in diamond and there are some relevant feedback to be gathered from them
    • Connectors are not good, but IOxOS are reactive and are preparing a new version for them
    • The interactions with IOxOS are easy

Action on Michele: check with diamond the experience of IoX mezzanine
Action on Ole and Michele: check with RF the needs and plans for LL-RF and open discussion for potential common development with Maria Elena (RF)
