Description

One of the promises of VHE gamma-ray astronomy has been to shed light on the acceleration sites of cosmic rays. The H.E.S.S. array of imaging Cherenkov telescopes has indeed revealed a large number of new VHE gamma-ray emitters, particularly in the Milky Way, but also outside our Galaxy. The talk aims to provide an overview of the different types of objects discovered. To unravel their astrophysical nature and the acceleration mechanisms in these sources, multiwavelength observations provide crucial input, and the connection to this information will be discussed.
