Description
African Science Stars is a pioneering initiative dedicated to advancing astronomy, space science, and STEM education across the African continent. It was launched as a quarterly publication under the African Astronomical Society (AfAS). Since its inception, African Science Stars has grown from a niche science magazine into a continent-wide platform that amplifies African scientific achievements, connects researchers with educators, and inspires the next generation of scientists.
Over the past years, African Science Stars has published ten issues, featuring interviews, research highlights, and educational resources that showcase Africa’s growing contributions to astronomy and space science. The platform has established partnerships in more than seven African countries, working with universities, observatories, and science outreach organisations. Through these collaborations, we have supported community-based outreach activities, provided accessible STEM content, and helped connect learners with opportunities to explore scientific careers.
This presentation will reflect on the lessons learned from building a science communication bridge between experts and communities, the impact of storytelling in shaping public engagement with science, and the vital role such initiatives play in positioning Africa as a leading contributor to global technology and space science.
