Venue and Travel

Venue

The workshop will take place at Heidelberg University, in the Kirchhoff Institute for Physics (KIP), INF 227. The presentations will be in the main auditorium of INF 227 (HS1) on the ground floor.

Registration, coffee and lunch break will take place in the adjacent building of the Physics Institute, INF 226.

How to reach the institute

Please look here for details on the public transport in Heidelberg (tickets, etc.).

1) from the main station:

  • by foot (20 min) - see here or here (less traffic) 
  • by tram (12 min): take tram lines 21, 24 (direction Hans-Thoma-Platz / Burstraße / Dossenheim / Schriessheim), get off at Bunsen-Gymnasium (3rd stop), walk to institute (see here)

 

2) from the city centre

  • by tram 21 (from Seegarten), get off at Bunsen-Gymnasium, walk to institute (see here)
  • by bus  31 (from Bismarck-Platz direction Neuenheim, Campus Im Neuenheimer Feld), get off at Bunsen-Gymnasium

Travel

By plane:

The airport closest to Heidelberg is Frankfurt airport (FRA) https://www.frankfurt-airport.com/en.html. From the airport it is easiest to get to Heidelberg by taking the ICE train from the airport train station to Mannheim main station, followed by the local train from Mannheim to Heidelberg.

By train:

Heidelberg can be easily reached by train by taking a long distance tran to Mannheim main station and from there the frequent local trains to Heidelberg main station. You can get the tickets via the Deutsche Bahn website https://www.bahn.de/. From Geneva the train ride is around 5 hours 40 minutes via Basel if there are no delays.

Local Public Transport

Getting to the conference venue is easiest by taking the tram to the tram stop Bunsengymnasium. From Heidelberg main station you need to take the tram line 24 in direction Handschuhsheim. Information on local public transport you can find on https://www.vrn.de/. If you take the tram from the main station the tram stop is in front of a gas station. Cross the street towards the campus, and pass the grey "Mathematikon" building on the left hand side. On your left you will see three large black buildings, the Kirchhoff Institute is the last one, opposite the newly built large lecture hall.
