Description
Beam diagnostics and instrumentation are essential components of all types of accelerators. A wide range of beam parameters must be measured to observe particle beams with the precision required for tuning, operating, and improving the machine. The fundamental mechanisms by which information is transferred from beam particles to the detector are described in order to derive suitable performance characteristics for the relevant beam properties.
