Description
Monochromatic X-ray beam position monitors are critical for maintaining stable beam delivery along synchrotron beamlines. This lecture reviews transmissive XBPM technologies used downstream of the monochromator. Single crystal CVD diamond XBPMs provide high transmission, radiation hardness, fast response, and nanometre-scale resolution, but are limited by small active areas and fragile surface electrodes. Silicon carbide XBPMs offer comparable performance with significantly larger active areas, extending applicability to larger beam sizes. A graphitic-wire pixel detector developed at Diamond Light Source is also presented, enabling simultaneous beam position and profile measurements within a robust, fully transmissive architecture. The role of XBPMs in beamline feedback systems is discussed, highlighting their use in correcting beam motion arising from environmental and operational disturbances. These developments reflect the ongoing evolution of XBPM technologies to meet the demands of modern synchrotron facilities.
