N. Peray presented the activities on 3D CAD design:

  • Pole midplane interface: WE GO FOR OPTION 2.
  • For the winding tooling, we should carefully check the weight of the winding table and components. Check as well the capacity of the winding machine. This applies as well to B.180 and the 5m long version.
  • For the pole-conductor insulation we discussed the possibility of coating the pole parts (as PSI showed in the HFM meeting)
    • Ariel will present next week the experience gathered with this type of coating
    • A visit to PSI can be organized
    • Coating can be tested as well in SMC

  • WINDING TOOLING
    • For the winding clamps, check the possibility of using a solution based on quick-release axles. Alternatively, check as well the possibility of using compressed aire cylinders.
      • Alejandro can work on these concepts with inputs from Ariel. Nico Peray will advance in the general tooling.
    • Also on clamping during winding (slide 7):
      • Check what they're doing for CHIC and consider the possibility of injecting it in one of next SMCs.
      • Check the need or not for a vertical clamp (mostly in the ends), as it was done for FRESCA II with a "cap / chapeau".
    • For the splice, consider 130 mm. I.e. a bit more than the twist pitch. The same is done for MQXF.

  • REACTION TOOLING:
    • For the moment keep the presented idea. Later, we will check the possibility of including multipoint injection for Argon flow.
    • Note that in general we inject from the leads side, to guarantee a good splice quality

  • IMPREGNATION TOOLING:
    • WE GO FOR Option 2
    • Check the possibility of using a SS layer (tole) for defining the impregnation cavity. This would remove the need for machining the central tooling block for each coil.
