For the retreat each student is required to give a presentation, which will happen on the Tuesday morning. This is so everyone can get to know the research taking place within the future joint institute.
To accomodate this requirement, we ask each student to prepare a short (3 minutes + 2 minutes questions) presentation and prepare ONE slide. Your presentation should include the following information:
- What group are you in
- What are you working on
- What is the motivation for this work
Please send the slide (as a pdf) and the title to ross.sheldon@oeaw.ac.at before 19th June. Please make the subject line of the email 'Retreat slide - firstname surname', e.g. 'Retreat slide - John Smith'.
To make things more interesting, we are turning it into a competition. You will be able to vote for the best presentation in each of the following categories:
- Storytelling - Was the scientific output well explained and motivated?
- Presentation - Were the ideas communicated well? Did the person speak clearly?
- Aesthetics - Was the slide well prepared? Did it contain useful information?
- Interaction - Were questions answered comprehensively and coherently?
The four winners will be announced afterwards and will receive a prize! You will be able to give more detailed constructive feedback on each presentation. This feedback will be available to the presenter on request and is fully anonymous and is designed to help you improve your presentation skills.
