Providence, Rhode Island, is strategically positioned to facilitate easy access for national and international visitors, making it an ideal location for hosting international events and promoting sustainability in the United States. For air travelers, T.F. Green Airport, located just about 10 miles south of downtown Providence, offers numerous direct flights from major U.S. cities; for example ample, flight times are approximately 1 hour from New York City and around 90 minutes from Washington D.C. International attendees can also fly into Logan International Airport in Boston, which is roughly an hour’s drive or a 70-minute train ride away via Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor service. This rail service also connects Providence directly to other major cities, including a 40-minute ride to Boston and approximately three hours to New York City.

Within Providence, the public transportation system is managed by the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, which includes buses and trolleys that cover the city extensively, promoting it as an environmentally friendly way to navigate. Many major hotels in downtown Providence are conveniently located within walking distance. For instance, a typical walk from downtown hotels to the RISD campus can take between 5 and 15 minutes, depending on the
starting point. 

The compact nature of the city center allows attendees to visit a variety of landmarks and cultural sites effortlessly. Highlights include the historic Providence Performing Arts Center, where visitors can catch Broadway shows and performances. Water Fire, an award-winning fire sculpture installation on the three rivers of downtown Providence, provides a mesmerizing experience on select evenings.
