Venue (CNRS Centre Paul Langevin, Aussois)

The conference will take place at Aussois (Savoy), a small village next to the Frejus tunnel (connecting Savoy/France and Piedmont/Italy). All the participants will stay at the CNRS Centre Paul Langevin rooms, where all meals will be served, and where the scientific sessions will take place.

Here you can find a map of the Centre Paul-Langevin (24, rue du Coin 73500 Aussois).

We expect all the participants to stay for the entire duration of the workshop (Monday 8:30am - Friday noon), and therefore to arrive during Sun. 14th (dinner will be served at the Center). Priority will in any case be given to participants attending all the sessions given the restricted number of rooms we have.

Aussois is a ski resort and the workshop takes place in December. You should then expect winter conditions. When arriving it therefore makes sense to try to avoid the late trains and to consider arriving on Sunday 14th in the afternoon, with daylight. The sunset is at 5pm.

How to reach Aussois:

By airplane. The nearest airports, in order of proximity, are Turin, Geneva, and Lyon. Usually, once at the airport, one reaches Aussois taking a train (see below) from the nearest station, or renting a car (see below).

By train. The Center is 9 km away from the Modane high-speed-train (TGV) railway station, that you can basically reach from anywhere in France or Italy.

By car. The Center is about 11 km away from the Frejus tunnel motorway connecting Torino and Albertville/Chambery/Grenoble. Follow your GPS or Google maps to make a route from your current location to the Centre Paul Langevin, Aussois. Note that there may well be snow/ice on the roads so your car should have winter tyres. Once at the Center, you can park your car anywhere in the free parking lot in front of the Paul Langevin Center.

By taxi. There is a taxi service in front of the Modane Railway station (Tel. +(33) ....). Cost of a ride from downtown Modane to Aussois is about 15-20€. Common taxis can be organized if participants arrive at the same hours.

Ski et al.:

After lunch (12:00-13:00), the participants have free time until 17:00. In principle, if the snow conditions are normal, the ski resort should be open. Ski tickets (forfaits) for 4 hours can be bought directly (about 35 EUR/4-hours) at the Center Secretariat (bring a SkiData magnetic card to spare 5 EUR). If there is a sufficient number of ski/snowboard beginners, we can book group lessons (to be paid by you, of course).
