Description
As part of its HL-LHC upgrade program, the CMS experiment is developing a High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL) to replace the existing endcap calorimeters. The HGCAL will be realized as a sampling calorimeter equipped with modules of silicon or scintillator tiles read out by SiPMs. For the validation of the HGCAL, prototypes of silicon and SiPM-on-tile modules have been assembled into a calorimeter and exposed to beams of electrons, muons and pions. The test beam campaign has been carried out in the North experimental area of CERN in 2025. The module prototypes, as well as the front-end and back-end electronic chains are very close to the final design. Studies of the properties of electromagnetic showers, including energy and timing measurements, will be presented, as well as measurements using state-of-the-art clustering algorithms foreseen to be used when the HGCAL is installed and integrated in CMS.
