Description

A high-granularity noble liquid electromagnetic calorimeter is being developed within the DRD Calo collaboration for application at future lepton colliders such as FCC-ee. The concept combines the intrinsic energy resolution and response uniformity of noble liquid calorimetry with fine spatial segmentation, making it well suited for precision measurements and particle-flow reconstruction.

The proposed design is based on a straight, multilayer electrode geometry. The electrode structure is implemented using printed circuit board technology, allowing flexible segmentation and reproducible manufacturing. Dedicated laboratory measurements with PCB-based prototypes have been carried out to validate the readout concept. The measurements show good agreement with simulations, confirming the expected signal, cross talk and electrical properties of the cells. These results provide important input for the optimization of electrode geometry, gap configuration, and readout segmentation.

In parallel, mechanical R&D addresses the design of absorber plates, spacers, and support structures. Prototype studies and simulations are used to evaluate mechanical stability and integration constraints, guiding the development of a detector layout suitable for large-scale implementation.

The calorimeter concept is being implemented in the ALLEGRO detector for FCC-ee. Simulation studies within the Key4hep framework are used to assess the expected performance, including energy resolution and reconstruction capabilities. Ongoing work focuses on further optimization of the design and preparation of a beam-test prototype.
