Description
The international collaboration DRDCalo, hosted by CERN, coordinates the strategic R&D of calorimeter systems for future particle physics experiments. Established in 2024, it currently brings together 134 institutes from 27 countries. This contribution will present an overview of the collaboration, its research programme, and highlight key results from its first two years of activity. Recent achievements include beam test results with novel optical materials using dual-readout techniques, demonstrating excellent energy resolution. In parallel, the collaboration is advancing highly granular imaging calorimeters based on semiconductor technologies, multi-pattern gas detectors, and scintillating tiles, with a strong emphasis on system integration. Developments in noble liquid calorimetry aim at next-generation detectors with an order-of-magnitude increase in granularity compared to existing systems. This requires optimised designs of readout electrodes and front-end electronics capable of reliable operation in cryogenic environments. The R&D programme is supported by state-of-the-art electronics and photosensors, as well as a consolidated software and computing framework. Machine learning techniques are increasingly integrated into detector development and reconstruction, with dedicated efforts within the collaboration. The presentation will conclude with an outlook towards the next programme phase (2027–2029).
