JCOP FWWG Meeting
14 October 2025

Update on JCOP Framework and WinCC OA

  • WinCC OA 3.19 patch P022 received; will be repackaged; contains few changes. P021 remains the recommended one for the development and likely for YETS updates
  • WinCC OA 3.21 beta expected in the last week of October
  • JCOP Framework: a number of components will get their releases triggered by the yearly release of UNICOS. Notably, fwTrending3, fwCore, fwAccessControl

FwDevice+

Pavel presented the current status of FwDevice+ - please see the slides.

Question from Sebastian: has there been any progress with improving the memory consumption of CTRL++ objects in WinCC OA (studied/reported to ETM in Spring).
Piotr clarified that even though ETM responded that there have been some improvements performed, they do not seem to be effective for WinCC OA 3.19. Will be re-tested with 3.21 beta once we receive, and if necessary re-raised with ETM.

Update on Wiener OPC UA Server

Ben explained the new OPC-UA Server for Wiener equipement, 3.0, is now available on the downloads page, and its details and new features are in the release notes. There were quite radical changes in the HAL (among others, for the new CAN support), and hence testing was done on the platforms/setup also documented in the downloads page.

Ben explained the MARAPODs now have an initial support in the OPC UA Server 3.0

Update on the fwWiener component

Presented by Mariusz, please refer to the presentation in INDICO, notably for the proposal of deprecation/cleanup of deprecated hw models!

Cristina raised concerns regarding compatibility of changes with respect to current systems being updated. To be clarified offline with Mariusz.

The modification of the DPType of FwWienerChannel may have impact on ConfigurationDB (a mismatch of device model w.r.t the one which was saved in the static configuration) may be encountered and the updated configurations/recipes may need to be saved.

Piotr asked for a clarification whether the upcoming changes could be delayed to version 3.21 of WinCC OA (with the initial framework release planned at the end of 2026Q1). Cristina clarified that support for MARAPODS is needed as soon as possible, meaning for WinCC OA 3.19. On the other hand, cleanups and possible incompatibilities may be delayed till WinCC OA 3.21.

Cristina asked for clarification about the use of "old" XML file for OPC-UA Server with the new version of the server. This was confirmed by Mariusz and Ben that they will work OK, yet the new OPC-UA items will not be present in the namespace until the config file is regenerated.

Fernando asked whether there are any other pending types of equipment to be integrated

  • 1 CAEN specific board (backward compatibility option) requested by CMS
  • ATLAS request for ISEG CC24 crate controllers; Ben looking at this for the OPC-UA server; integration to the WinCC OA part of the framework will need to come from ALICE. Mateusz Lechman to get in touch with Ben and Mariusz to follow up.

Action: Piotr requested that all experiments check the proposal of Mariusz concerning the modifications for fwWiener, and signal their needs for new device integrations within 2 weeks (before end of October), so these could be reviewed and possibly approved at the JCOP CB in the first week of November.

Update on the status of fwTrending3

Mariusz explained that there was a number of features that were implemented recently for the upcoming UNICOS release, yet they will surely be of general interest. These are mainly ergonomics-related, with the window title being more useful, improvements for the legend, and highlighting the curve that is being hoovered-on in the legend, have the curve DP draggable (for drag-and-drop), etc. The release is planned for mid-November.
The public API was put on hold, but the work on it will resume shortly
