This presentation is dedicated to a joint historical research project carried out by scholars from the University of Basel and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The project examines the interconnections between modern technologies, their emergence and use, and social and cultural transformations in Ukraine during the period of Soviet rule (1922–1991). It highlights the specific features of the Soviet model of technological development, based on the nationalization of production, centralized planning, and state control over the distribution of goods. At the same time, the project demonstrates how complex and internally contradictory this reality was beyond official structures and hierarchies. The research combines approaches from the history of technology, social anthropology, and visual studies. The project opens up new perspectives for understanding technology as a key factor in social history and for fostering a shared academic dialogue between Ukraine and Switzerland.
Доповідь, присвячену спільному дослідницькому проєкту у галузі історії, який здійснюється фахівцями Базельського університету та Київського національного університету імені Тараса Шевченка. Проєкт звертається до взаємозв’язків між сучасними технологіями, їхнім виникненням і використанням та соціальними й культурними трансформаціями в Україні в період радянського панування (1922–1991). Висвітлено специфіку радянської моделі технологічного розвитку, заснованої на націоналізації виробництва, централізованому плануванні та державному контролі над розподілом товарів. Водночас, проєкт демонструє, наскільки складною та суперечливою була ця реальність за межами офіційних структур та ієрархій. Дослідження поєднують методи історії технологій, соціальної антропології та візуальних студій. Проєкт відкриває нові перспективи для осмислення технологій як важливого чинника соціальної історії та спільного академічного діалогу між Україною та Швейцарією.
