Factorisation theorems underpin essentially all precision predictions at hadron colliders. Yet, for a broad class of observables, collinear factorisation is known to fail at the amplitude level. I review the current understanding of (soft-)collinear factorisation and the origin of its breaking, before discussing a recently identified mechanism through which PDF factorisation can nevertheless be restored. I place these results in the context of recent developments in splitting amplitudes, and conclude by discussing super-leading and coherence-violating logarithms and their implications for parton showers.
