The Quantum Computing Masterclass
The International Quantum Computing Masterclass introduces participants to the foundations of quantum computing and explores how quantum technologies can be applied to scientific problems, with particular emphasis on particle physics.
The programme combines accessible introductory lectures with a guided hands-on activity. Participants learn how to build quantum circuits and execute them on simulators and, whenever possible, on real quantum processors. No previous knowledge of quantum computing is required.
Through simple, research-inspired exercises, the Masterclass aims to make quantum technologies accessible to students and the wider community, encourage new ways of approaching scientific problems, and provide a realistic introduction to the possibilities and current limitations of quantum computing.
Following successful pilot activities coordinated by IGFAE-USC and CESGA in collaboration with partners from the Spanish Supercomputing Network, the initiative is being developed as a scalable international programme aligned with the IPPOG International Masterclasses model. The International Physics Masterclasses is a well-established global outreach program and flagship project of the International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG), fostered by CERN and implemented worldwide.
2027 edition
The 2027 Quantum Computing Masterclass sessions are planned startig from 1 March to 28 May 2027, in connection with World Quantum Day. Exact dates, participating institutes, organisational guidelines and registration information will be announced on this page.
