Practical information

Note on accommodation:

Participants are kindly asked to book their accommodation as early as possible. July is a busy period in Sarajevo, and hotels can fill up quickly.

There are many hotels and apartments available in the city centre and nearby neighborhoods. We recommend staying in the Old Town (Baščaršija) or the Marijin Dvor / city centre area, which are convenient for reaching the workshop venue and exploring the city.

Booking platforms such as Booking.com or Airbnb offer a wide range of options.

Flying to Sarajevo:

Sarajevo is served by Sarajevo International Airport, located about 12 km from the city centre. The trip to downtown Sarajevo typically takes around 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Taxi:

Taxis are available directly outside the arrivals terminal. Typical taxi tariffs in Sarajevo are:

  • Start: 2.50 BAM (~1.25 EUR)

  • Per kilometre: 1.50 BAM (~0.75 EUR)

  • Luggage (per piece): 5.00 BAM (~2.5 EUR)

  • Waiting (1 hour): 15.00 BAM (~7.5 EUR)

The total price for a ride to the city centre is usually around 20–30 BAM (~ 10–15 EUR), depending on the exact destination and traffic.

Airport Bus:

A shuttle bus connects the airport with the city centre (Baščaršija). The journey takes about 30 minutes, and tickets cost around 5 BAM (~2.5 EUR).

The current timetable (as of March 2026) is attached below.

Currency and Payments

The official currency in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the Bosnia and Herzegovina Convertible Mark (BAM), often written as KM. The currency is fixed to the euro at approximately 1 EUR ≈ 1.95 BAM, which means prices are relatively easy to convert for visitors from the euro area.

Cash and Cards:

  • Cash is still widely used, especially in small cafés, bakeries, taxis, and local shops.

  • Credit and debit cards (Visa and Mastercard) are commonly accepted in hotels, larger restaurants, and supermarkets.

  • American Express is accepted less frequently.

ATMs:

ATMs are widely available throughout Sarajevo and usually offer withdrawals directly in BAM. Most international cards work without problems.
