Machine related activities in the experimental hall 10m
IS work #1.
Speakers: Erwin Siesling (CERN), Simon Mataguez (CERN)Planning last/this week / wk18:
- Lat week Friday 24 April (contacts: Laura, Filippo, Erwin):
- scaffolding workers at RILIS needed lock-out from 7h-9h
- ISOLTRAP dewar handling by crane 9h-9h30: crane unlocked (Filippo), scaffolding work to stop for ~1/2 hr. - however, the scaffolding never continued.. The team leaves at 10 am each Friday..
- 9h30 crane locked out again (Filippo): modifications / dismounting PUMA related adaptation (Filippo Cappelletti). Re-mount modified PUMA pieces in week 19 ? (4-8 May). - Question is whether to remount and/or dismount each time there is a need or to study integration and modify the pieces so they can stay mounted at all times. - Monday 27 April: Scaffolding work on the RILIS barrack was supposed to start at 9h, started eventually at 10h. EN/EL (Rustan's team) could not start their work on the re-routing of the roof cable bundle. They could do their work at the end of the morning.
- Monday-afternoon 27 April: Removal of the RILIS laser tables and blocks (see RILIS report)
- Mon/Tues 27/28 April: Horizontal core drilling for ISOLTRAP wall emergency exit (Severin + contractor) - crane available for RILIS + VITO work - ongoing
- Tuesday-morning 28 April: VITO magnet handling in the hall (~2 hrs) - specialist Brucker hired - done (VITO magnet is in 275 now)
- Wedn/Thurs 29/30 April: Vertical core drilling for ISOLTRAP wall emergency exit – crane lock-outTuesday-afternoon 16h30 (by Celim)
- Wednesday-afternoon 29 April: end of lockout 16h30 (by Celim)
- Thursday 30 April: crane to be back available for dewar handling (ISOLTRAP) – Attn.: Fri 1 May off.
HEBT lines Gas-distribution system commissioning:
- Gas detection system tests finished last week with a few points to address (check status):
- Interface with outside panel to control the various electro valves (waiting for new safety valve to be installed in the outside cage (Letizia))
- in the 3 racks a copper grounding bar is missing to connect the detector equipment (James) - Since there will be no use of the system during LS3 an IS37 has been put in place (Letizia)
Platform EPC:
- Mon/Tues 27/28 April: entrance 508 side restricted due to replacement of the beams and floor plates
- HT cables tests of the cables between patch panels and machine done (check status).
- Some HT cables are not long enough and need an extension. Will be addressed in teh coming days (Rustan, Nicolas, contractor)
- Removal of the scaffolding to be done followed by adaptation of the old false floor. Proposal Jean-Pierre Billon-Grand. To be defined when and who (Jordy team?)
REX/HIE ISOLDE preparations CM1 transport:
- CM1 was successfully transported from 170 to SM18 last Thursday. Many thanks for all involved.
- Now in the hands of SY/RF, ready for refurbishment starting after the summer (- discussions on resources ongoing)
- CM1 is to come back in October 2027
Planning REX/HIE: 170 REX HIE planning | Document 3383102 (v.1)
Vacuum pumping / ventilation:
- Ventilation systems back operational since end of last week
- Investigation at EBIS to find an assumed leak its vacuum system can be scheduled (Guillermo)
- Replacement of the HRS20 & HRS30 pumping groups valves in the HRS separator zone can be scheduled (Guilermo)
Work in the 170 HT room:
- GPS and HRS target heating power supplies replacement has finished
Beamlines:
- RC6 cabling work ongoing. RC7 installation and cable work ongoing
- Lat week Friday 24 April (contacts: Laura, Filippo, Erwin):

Experiments related activities in the experimental hall 5mSpeaker: Erwin Siesling (CERN)
ISOLTRAP:
- Emergency wall cutting/core drilling ongoing as planned (Severin/contractor). Horizontal core drilling will be done Mon/Tues 27/28 April: Crane still available. Followed by vertical core drilling where crane support and lock-out will be needed on Wedn/Thursd 29/30 April.
Fits with all other activities - ISOLTRAP side cable tray bracket and pipe holders were disconnected by the contractor - Thanks!
- ISOLTRAP platform replacement work: 18th June scaffolding - first platform part to finish ~22 July.
- VITO laser tube is to stay in place: Has been discussed with the scaffolding organising responsible (Michael Bourbon). Laser guidance tube to be connected to the scaffolding and vertical pillar to be removed. To be noted on the scaffolding contractor's work order at the next occasion.
- ISOLTRAP filling / dewar craning in line with the CM1 handling activities in wk 17 / 18 (see machine activities - planning).
WISARD:
- planning to come 15 - 19 June to mount the setup for off line data taking
- week 27 (29 June) to cooldown the magnet
- taking data wk27-29 until July 19
- Coordinate with ISOLTRAP & RILIS work. Crane needed for dewar craning WISARD
Beamlines:- VITO magnet has been lifted out and transported to 275 - Brucker specialist for specific rods inserts and handling
- VITO suggests a marked pathway along the Jura side of the HIE tunnel to avoid blockage with equipment
- ISOLTRAP platform
- Wall cutting emergency exit - ongoing
- PUMA - RC7 installation work on supports and equipment ongoing
- PUMA LS running discussed with Richard Scrivens & Mark Kirschbaum - to secure, as planned, services from the groups from Aug '26 - start 2028.
- CRIS asked for the use of the ISOLTRAP (CDO) end-FC pico amp box to ready out their signals - BI rack and FE are off. Suggestion to use the manual Keithley pico ampere meter(s) standing in the old control room
