Reports for the SPI project meeting 12. June 2007
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yves Perrin
+ Actions done and progress
- sorted out a couple of Savannah issues related to wrong operations
done by users
- created a number of HN forums both for Atlas and for LCGAA.
- short status meeting with Dario barberis and Stephen Haywood / RAL
on the Atlas HN administration.
- moved 'little used Atlas HN forums' to an 'Archive' category.
- modified the NB summary generation script so that user can interactively
select the day(s), slot(s) and project(s).
- integration in the twiki does not work ... working on the generation
of an xml representation of the NB summary and on the extraction and
display of the user selected components via the SPI twiki.
- studying Joachim Flammaer / gLite Middleware request to modify
savannah so that edition of items (free text) fields get blocked
for selectable peopple once the item reaches a certain status.
... most likely requires a major development not compatible with
our present priorities.
+ Next actions
- complete the migration of SPI web pages to the twiki

+ Actions done and progress
- LCG 52a releases
- It contains a bugfix release of ROOT (5.14.00f) and added dictionaries for RELAX
(1.1.9) for HepMC iterator classes (on request of LHCb).
- Hypernews
- the new instance for LCG/AA has been setup and tested successfully on the new h/w
- an rsync from the current backup machine of the production instance for the LHC
experiments has been done to both the new production machine and its hot standby
(lcgapp02/03)
- a dynamic DNS has been setup for the URL "hn.cern.ch". The goal is to switch
with this url from the production to the standby machine in case of failure
- a script has been written which symlinks all users of all instances to LCG/AA. This
will allow all Hypernews users to use/contribute to the LCG/AA instance. "/data/scripts/
createLCGAAsymlinks.py". The script can also find duplicate entries of users. This
will run as a cronjob on the production machine (e.g. every 10 minutes)
- LCGCMT s/w build tree
- David Quarrie and Ed Moyse are contributing to the common effort of producing a
the LCGCMT s/w distribution tree.
- The tree is located under the LCG_Builders directory in LCGCMT
- It contains new configuration for the packages: boost, boost_jam, cmake, gccxml, hepmc, heppdt
- All changes have been uploaded into CVS
+ Problems
- the dynamic DNS for Hypernews switches immediately if the production node is not
available with a certain time (was 5 mins). This is not the desired behavior as we want
to be able to switch to standby non automatic in order to avoid loss of data.
+ Next actions
- Provide a twiki page for LCGCMT s/w build with info on how to produce cmt packages
- Continue with LCGCMT build tree
