People are the key to successful software. The HSF-India project aims to promote the development of international research software collaborations. This is part of a series of workshops for software and data analysis skills essential for doing research software in physics. Our curriculum builds upon the successful series of workshops.
This workshop covers
- Hands-on introduction to Python and Scientific Python. The first afternoon will focus on the Python language and essential syntax for engaging with machine learning toolkits and scientific python libraries.
- Hands-on introduction to machine learning for scientific analysis. We will start from the mathematical foundations of ML, demonstrate how neural network architectures work, and illustrate modern ML techniques such as transformers.
- Hands-on introduction to LHC analysis using Coffea and other Python ecosystem packages.
- Hackathon including applications of Machine Learning, and Scientific Python, Coffea and programming skills to experimental physics applications. Projects will be group oriented and will each be lead by an international expert.
This event is organized primarily for students from IIT Mandi and nearby universities, however, anyone is welcome to attend. We expect to be able to accommodate up to about 45 participants in the full event. There is no arranged accommodation for students coming from outside of the local area.
The registrations will be open soon with a tentative deadline for full consideration of your application of October 1, 2026. We hope to be able to accept all requests, but do have limited space. A registration fee of 1000 INR will be collected later from the accepted registrations. A limited number of scholarships will also be available, so please apply even if the fee would otherwise prevent you from attending.
