DAQFEET 2027 (Data Acquisition, Front-end Electronics and Trigger) is a workshop dedicated to the development of DAQ systems for high-rate experiments. As experiments move towards higher beam intensities and data rates, their DAQ systems will need to evolve to meet these demands, which presents a range of technical challenges common to many experiments.
One such example is the AMBER experiment, which had a successful run in 2026, with the DAQ achieving a 1.25 GB/s on-spill data rate with 2 MHz beam intensity for the Proton radius measurement physics programme. Looking ahead, the planned 2030-31 Drell-Yan run will call for a minimum 30 GB/s on-spill (10 GB/s sustained) data rate with 70-200 MHz beam intensity, motivating further developments of the system.
This workshop aims to bring together people working on these topics to discuss the challenges of developing such DAQ systems, including the role of FPGA development. We welcome contributions from other experiments and from groups working on related technologies, whether on completed systems, ongoing developments or lessons learned along the way. The workshop will provide an opportunity to present this work to an audience of DAQ specialists, to exchange ideas that may benefit participants' own projects, and to explore possible new collaborations. With the Drell-Yan run still several years away, the AMBER DAQ also offers an opportunity for interested groups to contribute to the development of a system with demanding requirements.
Day 1 of the workshop will serve primarily to introduce the AMBER DAQ and its requirements as an example of these challenges. Afterwards, invited talks will be given and interested groups will have the opportunity to present their work and areas of expertise. In the late afternoon, specific DAQ talks will start.
Day 2 of the workshop will be dedicated to a discussion-heavy format (30 min slots for talks, with a 30 min slot for the following discussion), aimed primarily at those actively working on DAQ development. All interested participants are very welcome to join and bring their own perspectives to the discussions.
There will be a social evening at the end of the workshop, the details of which are TBA.
