Description

Huge calorimetric systems built to ensure the Higgs discovery and new physics searches have borne scrutiny of collisions and harsh environment during the first LHC run. Few key aspects of the performance of these systems and lessons learnt in this context will be discussed. In the future, several crucial physics problems have to be addressed in different scientific fields and this research program will span over decades. Calorimeters have to be conceived to face future challenges, diverse techniques are already proposed and some of them investigated in depth. A commented overview will be provided. Finally the potential of this field for applications outside particle physics will be considered.
