Description
By necessity, semiconductor silicon detectors are damaged by radiation during their use. Studies have been made since the beginning, in the fifties and sixties, and are continued until today.
Understanding of the radiation effects helps to shape devices that can operate under quite harsh conditions. The extreme purity of industrial silicon allows predictability of performance and presents an advantage over other sensor materials.
