This meeting will discuss future prospects for understanding and probing physics Beyond the Standard Model. Topics to be covered include:
  • Theoretical approaches to understanding the gauge hierarchy problem and naturalness in the Standard Model.
  • New theoretical ideas in light of the discovery of a SM higgs-like boson at the LHC, and null results of direct searches for BSM physics with the 7-8 TeV LHC dataset.
  • Prospects for experimental tests of BSM theories using LHC data from 2015 onwards, including the phase-2 LHC upgrades.
  • Alternative routes to probing BSM theories, including dark matter searches, CMB measurements, and future colliders.
The meeting will begin on Thursday 13th June with an IOP 'half-day' meeting suitable for a general particle physics audience.

On Friday morning, June 14th, there will be an informal meeting with a few talks on hot topics in theoretical particle physics. In the afternoon most participants will want to move over to the Sheffield DocFest film festival to attend the world premiere of 'Particle Fever' (see also here), David Kaplan's new documentary on particle physics in the time of the LHC. The movie is shown at 3.15pm in the Showroom Cinema. Tickets are required for this event - booking details can be found here.

Attendance (registration required) is open to all members of the Institute of Physics, or by invitation.

6th June: *PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE*. New venue is Hicks Building Lecture Theatre E (see travel information).
