Description
We propose a novel mechanism for the incomplete decay of the inflaton
field that, while reheating the universe after inflation, leaves a
stable oscillating scalar condensate that can account for the observed
dark matter abundance. We discuss possible embeddings of this
mechanism within different inflationary models, in particular chaotic
and hybrid inflation, as well as within extensions of the Standard
Model of particle physics.
