Text and Data Mining (TDM) as a technique for analysing and extracting new insights and knowledge from the increasing masses of so called big data and a wide array of academic fields from science to the humanities will only increase in importance. Yet the current legal framework in the EU facilitates far from optimal conditions for TDM research. This workshop gives an overview of the legal framework for TDM as well as the current development and potential opportunities that TDM offers. The workshop will also include active participation in order to explore what TDM could do and mean in the fields of expertise of the participants.
