Description
D-Grid is the German initiative for building a national computing grid. When its customers want to work within the German grid, they need dedicated software, called ‘middleware’. As D-Grid site administrators are free to choose their middleware according to the needs of their users, the project ‘DGI (D-Grid Integration) reference installation’ was launched. Its purpose is to assist the site administrators in setting up their software solutions.
The reference installation follows a strict workflow which begins with installing and configuring several middlewares, comes to verifying their functionality and – in case the setup passes these phases – is completed with an extensive documentation that will be supplied online to all users. This workflow is repeated every six months with publication of alpha, beta and final revisions during its progress.
The first production release of the reference installation is scheduled for January 15, 2009. It will include manuals for installation of three job submission frontends, which will be gLite, GlobusToolkit and Unicore. Furthermore two data management frontends, OGSA-DAI and dCache, will also be part of this release.
