Description

art@CMS is an education and outreach programme of the CMS Experiment at CERN. Since 2012, art@CMS has been a springboard for engagement with scientific research in physics and particle physics in an exciting and inspiring way, through the development of creative and participatory experiences for the public, especially aimed at young people. art@CMS achieves this through two complementary projects: art exhibitions, and science and art workshops. Art exhibitions are the outcome of collaboration between artists, art institutes, scientists and CMS institutes, and act as catalysts for promoting public understanding of science. Interdisciplinary in their nature, science and art workshops enable young people to discover the wonders of science and technology at CMS and CERN, to be inspired and encouraged, and to develop skills that are critical to the challenges of the 21st century. Through these two projects, art@CMS has so far helped 100,000 people, including hundreds of school students, in 12 countries to gain a better understanding of how science works and how the public can engage with it.
