TEL: The European Library

TEL aims to set up a co-operative framework which will lead to a system for access to major collections (print, digital and other media) in European national libraries and other institutions. The feasibility of this is being tested from February 2001 to July 2003 by seven national libraries, including the Swiss National Library. The European Commission is providing partial funding for this initiative. During the project a test system will be developed to show how the TEL vision could be achieved. The talk will present the aims of the project, the systems that need to be developed, harmonisation requirements for metadata and discuss questions of content for TEL.
