Jim gave an overview of the PVSS-COOL interface he has developed for ATLAS. This is now working as a beta-release. His slides are attached to these minutes.
The following points were raised:
- When smoothing is applied via Jim's panel this is applied to all dpe configured for that COOL folder and is applied to the PVSS archiving directly.
- If new dps are added in PVSS which correspond to the selection pattern for the folder then these are automatically taken into account for the PVSS2COOL process. However, the smoothing would need to be added in addition to these dps.
- In answer to a question regarding the number of channels Jim replied that ATLAS has between 100k and 500k channels.
- There was a question regarding the maximum number of folders - Jim replied ~ 10 billion, i.e. more than enough.
- In ATLAS there will be one PVSS Oracle account per sub-detector and likewise there will be one PVSS2COOL process per sub-detector.
- If a user tries to create a COOL folder with an already existing name then the creation will fail with an error message.
- For the moment Jim is not sure how to handle dpes with the invalid flag set. He might just create a null entry in the folder.
- Jim noted that there is currently a bug in the RBD manager when handling dyn types.
- The next version of the tool will do more error and validity checking, e.g. the COOL field names cannot be more than 30 characters in length.
- Once a folder has been created it cannot be modified. Hence, to add, modify or delete items in a folder requires a new folder to be created.
- Jim confirmed that it is NOT possible to delete anything in the PVSS archive nor in COOL via his tool.
- The information on what dpes need to be copied to which COOL folders is contained in dps which are also archived and read by the PVSS2COOL process.
- Wayne asked what loading the process put on the database. Jim felt that this could be significant. It was suggested that some tests are scheduled in parallel to the archiving tests and that Jim should discuss this with Manuel when he is back.
- It will be possible for a sub-detector to configure the data to be sent to COOL from a single PVSS system.
- Jim has developed a panel for view and modifying/deleting existing archive configs for a system.
- Clara suggested that this be included into the FW core and that maybe it be extended to allow standard non-used PVSS data points to be deleted.
