1) Redundancy for PVSS applications
Bobby presented the CMS set-up for the MTCC and highlighted the importance of redundancy for the top level system. Although this improves availability and reliability, the main reason for this is to be able to modify this application without disturbing the many other applications relying on this one.
His slides are attached.
The other experiments present felt that the use of redundancy might be considered at some point, but had not been to-date. At least the following FW components would need to be modified to support redundancy:
- FSM
- DIM
- DIP
- Installation tool
- Trending tool
and possibly:
- Access control tool
However, there might also be unforeseen impact on other components.
The experiments were invited to consider this and provide feedback before the next FWWG meeting. Wayne and Frank will discuss with Clara when she is back.
2) Remote FW component installation
Fernando presented two possible approaches for implemented the required functionality. One based on CMF/LinuxFC and one implemented more or less from scratch. The pros and cons for each are shown in his slides which are attached.
After some discussion there was a consensus that the CMF/LinuxFC solution, although providing quite a lot of functionality for 'free', would be too limited and hence it was agreed to proceed with the other option.
3) A.o.B.
It was suggested to make presentations of the Cooling and Ventilation, and Magnet Control Components at a future FWWG meeting.
There are minutes attached to this event.
Show them.
