Description
We employ the HEP-SPEC06 benchmark, developed by the HEPiX CPU benchmarking working group, to evaluate CPU performance of a number of virtual machines configurations for the highly CPU loaded HEP worker node. Benchmarks are performed on 8 different models of AMD and Intel CPU spanning 2003 to 2008 generation architectures. We demonstrate that multi-core worker node can run n VMs where n is the number of cores without suffering significant CPU performance penalties. Our focus is
primarily on Xen, but we have some preliminary KVM results.
