An M-theory approach to topological strings
- Marcos Marino
Description
Abstract: The M-theory regime of some type II superstring theories on AdS backgrounds
can be understood in detail by combining the AdS/CFT correspondence with localization techniques.
In this talk I will show that one can use the same ideas to provide an M-theory picture of topological strings
on general toric Calabi-Yau’s. In this picture, the total partition function of topological string theory is conjecturally
recovered in the ’t Hooft limit of a matrix model, similar to the matrix integrals appearing in the localization
of Chern-Simons-matter theories on the three-sphere. In addition, one finds an exact result for the M-theory expansion of
these matrix models, generalizing previous results for the ABJM matrix model. As an application of these ideas,
I will also present a conjecture for the exact solution of quantum relativistic integrable systems
associated to toric Calabi-Yau’s (also known as Goncharov-Kenyon systems).
