Description

We present a summary of the heavy flavor results from the STAR experiment. The study of heavy quark production in heavy ion collisions has been of interest in recent years because i) Heavy flavor decay electron production has been observed to be suppressed as much as light hadrons in the medium in contradiction with theoretical expectations and ii) the production of heavy quark bound states shows similar suppression as seen at lower energies, prompting reevaluations of the production mechanism of quarkonium. We discuss the latest results from STAR on these two topics.
