ATTRACT is a Pan-European initiative in detection and imaging to create an unique ecosystem of opportunities for serving the European Research Infrastructures and their R&D communities in their mission, while better extracting industrial and societal value out of fundamental science and stimulating the talent of young professionals. More about ATTRACT: www.attract-eu.org The purpose of this Workshop is: First, how to resolve the inherent conflict between the public sector interest in IPR which is funded by public money being made available for all (‘Open Science’) with the normal private sector requirement, when investing in the commercialisation of university/research institute IPR, to take monopoly control of ‘the whole sausage and not just of a few salami slices’. Second, we will discuss and explore alternative funding models for early stage technology. We enclose an extract from a summary document commissioned by CERN and the ATTRACT Advisory Board in which we explore two alternative funding models as examples, ‘Young Genius Funding’ and ‘First Loss Guarantee Funding’. The Workshop is organized and chaired by the ATTRACT Advisory Board (Prof. John Wood).
