12th International Workshop on High-pT Physics in the RHIC/LHC era

US/Eastern
University of Bergen

University of Bergen

Bergen Norway
Description

The purpose of this workshop is to offer an opportunity for experimentalists and theoreticians to get together and discuss experimental results from RHIC and LHC - after the start of its second run - and theoretical developments. This meeting is in a workshop format, with only plenary presentations and ample room for discussion between the presentations.

Topics:

  • Nuclear modifications of the parton distribution functions
  • High pT jet production in pp, pA and AA
  • High pT parton propagation in matter
  • Nuclear modifications of the fragmentation functions
  • Correlations of jets and leading particles
  • Direct photons, heavy flavor, quarkonia
  • Multiparticle effects
  • Forward physics

The workshop will be organized jointly by the University of Bergen (UiB) and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL). The workshop will start on Monday, October 2nd, 2017 and end on Thursday, October 5th, at 16.00.

For all participants: to get internet connection please connect to http://uib.no, give your mobile phone number with a blank password. UiB will send you a password to be used with your phone number. For non-norwegian phones add +nationalcode before your number. The procedure is also explained on the back of your badge.

If you have any question or problem you can always contact one of the local organizers. They are identified by the blue badges.

For speakers: you should have the rights to upload your talks. In case of problems please send your slides here.

Venue

The venue will be the Auditorium building next to the Department of Physics and Technology on the UiB campus, close to hotels and the city centre. A map can be found here

We plan to provide coffee, lunches, a welcome reception and a dinner. The registration fee is 1000 NOK (about 109 EUR). Rooms have been blocked in nearby hotels; hotel prices are around 1000 NOK per night.

- Travel to Bergen

Bergen is located on the west coast of Norway. The best way to get here is by plane. From the airport (Flesland) there are daily connections  e.g. to Amsterdam (KLM), Copenhagen (SAS) and Oslo (SAS/Norwegian). Air fares to European destinations start at around 2000 NOK.

- From the airport

Bergen Airport is situated 20 Km south of Bergen.

The airport express coach (airport bus) departs every 10 minutes (it takes about 30 minutes). A one-way ticket is ~100 NOK. For more information about timetable and stops please click here and select the stop you are interested. Main stops are: Bergen Busstasjon, Festeplassen (near Byparken), Fisketorget (fish market), Dreggsallmenningen (Bryggen area). The bus driver will announce which destination you arrived at. You can ask him/her information about your stop as well as to announce it.

The Bergen Light Rail ("Bybanen") runs from airport to Byparken (it takes about 40 minutes). A one-way ticket is ~40 NOK. Tickets can be bought from ticket machines, available at each stop. More details about timetable and stops can be found here

Taxi fare from the airport to the city center is approximately 500 NOK (more during weekends and night / early morning).

Airport bus and taxi can be paid in the vehicle by a VISA-card.

Visit Fløyen

Social dinner will take place at Fløien Folkerestaurant, on the top of the Mount Fløyen (about 320 m above sea level), where you will experience  a beautiful view of the city. The area on the top is well equipped, there were play area for kids, free Wi-Fi, cafes and restaurants. Just a short 10-minutes walk from the play area lies a small but suggestive lake called "Skomakerdiket".

The Fløibanen funicular in Bergen is one of the most famous  attractions in Norway. It runs from the city center to the top of Mount Fløyen  in just six minutes. The Fløibanen funicular is open during the week (Monday-Friday) from 07.30 to 23.00 and during the week-end from 8:00 to 23:00. The ride starts at the lower station, right in the heart of the city, just 150 meters from Bryggen and the Fish Market. The price of one way ticket to/from Mount Fløyen is 45 NOK.

Mount Fløyen is also a nice place for walks. The walking distance up to Fløyen is about 3 Km, corresponding to an average walking time of about 45 minutes. Please note that the weather in Bergen in early October is fairly mild, but temperatures may vary from 10 – 20°C with sudden rainfalls, so a raincoat or a wind jacket is recommended.

You can find further details and other suggested activities around Fløyen at this link.
