The workshop will be held at the Orangery of Hortus Botanicus, Rapenburg 73, 2311 GJ, Leiden.

How to get here

The Hortus botanicus is situated in the historical city centre of Leiden. It’s a 15 minutes’ walk from the Central Station. At the Visitors Centre Leiden, across Central Station, you can ask for a free map of the city and they can give you directions. Walking to the Hortus, you will pass many monuments on the Rapenburg. When walking from the Central Station, you will find the Hortus on the right hand side, right behind the Academy building of the Leiden University.

By train

Leiden central station is a connection hub, directly connected to many of the greater stations in the Netherlands like Utrecht, Den Haag, Schiphol, Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Walking from Leiden Lammenschans - 25 minutes walk

Busses

Bus line 1, busstop Paterstraat This bus departs from both trainstation Leiden Central Station and trainstation Leiden Lammenschans.
5 minutes walk: Walk across the bridge, straight onward until you reach the courtyard. In the glass building you’ll find the entrance to the garden.

Busses from Central Station with busstop Breestraat, lines: 2, 3, 4, 45, 169, 182 and 187; or busstop Kort Rapenburg: lines 5 and 6 - both have a 5 minute walk. From the Breestraat simply follow the signs “Hortus Botanicus” and from Kort Rapenburg follow the canal.

By car

From The Hague

  • A44 from The Hague 
  • exit Leiden 
  • to the right Plesmanlaan 
  • follow city centre
  • follow signs Parking in Leiden (Haagweg / Groenoordhallen)

A4 from The Hague  

  • exit 7 Zoeterwoude-Dorp 
  • to the left Europaweg (N206) 
  • take a left turn to Voorschoterweg 
  • to the right Churchillaan (N206 direction Katwijk) 
  • to the right Centrum - Haagweg (Windmill Noordman) 
  • follow signs Parkeren in Leiden (Haagweg)

From Amsterdam 

  • A44 from Amsterdam 
  • exit 8 Leiden 
  • to the left Plesmanlaan 
  • follow centrum 
  • follow signs Parking in Leiden (Haagweg/Groenoordhallen)

A4 from Amsterdam/Utrecht 

  • Don’t take exit 6! 
  • but exit 7 Zoeterwoude-Dorp 
  • left Europaweg (N206) 
  • take a left turn to Voorschoterweg 
  • right to Churchillaan (N206 richting Katwijk) 
  • right to city centre - Haagweg (Windmill Noordman)

There are a limited number of parking spaces in the historic centre.

You are advised to park your vehicle in one of the three parking garages or one of the seven parking lots. 
The largest parking lot in Leiden is located on the Haagweg
When you park your vehicle here or in the Groenoordhallen parking lot, a free city shuttle will take you to the city centre in less than 10 minutes. The city shuttle operates both during the day and at night, and special arrangements can be made to accommodate groups so that you are always guaranteed transport to and from the city centre.
