Visa regulations

Switzerland does not require a visa for visits shorter than 90 days for most countries. However, please, check the Visa regulations for the entry to Switzerland for specific countries.

Currency

Switzerland has its own currency, the Swiss Franc (CHF). While credit cards are widely accepted, it is advisable to carry at least some amount of cash, e.g. in order to pay for a snack or for public transportation. Money can be changed at airports and at the larger train stations, at banks, and in hotels (where the rates may be less advantageous).

By air

The closest international airports are in Geneva and Zurich, serving many destinations. 

By train & bus

The village of Saas-Fee can be easily reached by train and bus. From all trains, you will have to change in Visp to take a bus up to Saas-Fee. There are trains leaving directly both from the Geneva and Zurich airports.

Direct trains from Geneva airport to Brig stop in Visp. From Zurich airport you may need to change in Zurich central station and/or in Bern depending on the connection. You can find the time table and check the connections from European cities at http://www.sbb.ch.

The bus (number 511) starts in front of Visp train station (Southern side) and ends in Saas-Fee (there is a single stop in Saas-Fee called "Busterminal").

Swiss transport are integrated, which mean that a single ticket will be valid for the train and the bus. You can buy the ticket at the airports train station (counter or ticket machine) up to Saas-Fee Busterminal. There are two reasons why you may prefer to purchase the ticket in advance on http://www.sbb.ch :

  • if you arrive late at the airport and you need to rush to get the last train/bus to Saas-Fee.
  • if you wish to get a discounted ticket, in particular a Saver Day Pass.

The hotel Allalin is located 350m from the Saas-Fee Busterminal station. You can reach it by foot or take the free hotel electric shuttle. If you do not see it at the bus stop you can call (+41279581000) the hotel.

Weather

Saas-Fee got an exceptional amount of snow in January and the road has been closed a couple of times (also on Jan 22) to have it was secured against avalanche. The current forecast predict a few cm of snow on Jan 27-28, nothing to worry about, and no additional snow during the course week.

By road

Saas-Fee is a car free village. A large parking is available at the entrance of the village where cars can be parked (fee: ~ CHF 133.- per week).
