Description
Workshop Summary / Machine Protection
Participants: F. Antoniou, R. Corsini, B. Dalena, B. Holzer, B. Jeanneret, M. Jonker, E. Marin, G. Morpurgo, S. Orfanelli, J. Pfingstner, L. Rinolfi, D. Schulte, F. Stulle, J. Snuverink, R. Tomas, J. Uythoven, G. Vanbavinckhove, A. Vivoli M. Jonker reported on possible failure scenarios for CLIC and their consequences on the machine protection system. The major complication is the huge beam power of the drive beam and the main beam. But also the charge density can lead to serious damage in material hit by the beam. Various protection systems will be required for safe operation. D. Schulte presented results of several simulations of main linac and decelerator including failure modes. They let to a first collimation layout. This effort is ongoing. It was agreed to prepare a list of possible failure modes and their priority. D.S. will take care of this. The impact of the feedback systems on the machine protection was discussed. It might be required to limit their range and their speed to allow proper machine protection. D. Schulte presented a summary of the ILC CLIC LET Beam Dynamics Workshop.
