Approval of Minutes

Communications

  • LIU Project Meeting (29th of June 2017).
  • The document concerning the interlock systems for the PSB (EDMS 1715266) will be iterated upon one last time.

Follow-up of Open Actions

T. Dobers (2017-05-31) “Report about the issues with the alignment of the PSB equipment and progress with the fabrication of a tilt measurement tool”:

  • Alignment of the BR.QFO.151 magnet: it was aligned during the EYETS by using auxiliary jacks to support the magnet in order to have less weight on the main jacks. This was successful, and the magnet could be brought into its correct position.
  • About the tilt (roll angle) device for the PSB main dipoles: all data has been collected and they could fabricate this device to be ready for the YETS.
  • The construction of the tool should be started. Action to be closed.

C. Bracco, V. Forte (2017-06-30) “Study collimation and losses in the injection line”:

  • Postpone action to the end of the year.

A. Newborough (2017-06-30): "Write the ECR for the new damping resistor installation":

  • Action to be closed.

Update on the open actions concerning the matching monitors by J. Tan

  • Planning of the tank production: it is now in EN-MME’s priority list.
  • Synchronization of the sampling rate with the RF: ADC sampling frequency will be locked to the RF.
  • Safety and feasibility of measurements at 50 MeV: simulations will be done this summer by a student.
  • Date of installation of the final board: in 2018, without a final date.
  • Verification of use of existing FEC: a new FEC will be required.

Follow-up on the B-train by M. Buzio

  • PS tests show that the beam can be correctly injected, accelerated and extracted with the new measurement system.
  • It was observed during the tests that the new measurement system resolution exceeds the old one. A small drift in the magnetic field is observed between the two systems, which is not yet understood.
  • The PSB B-train test system is set-up in building 361, with new electronics and sensors in the reference magnet. The electronics still need to be commissioned in terms of calibration. The sensors were installed in the last YETS and tested with some minor issues regarding the signals from the coils. The coils for ring 3 and sensors for ring 2 will be changed during the next YETS. The system is expected to be commissioned in 2018 and will be used to validate the new measurement for the PSB before LS2.
  • Tests are currently ongoing on the new reference magnet in building 867. The electronics and sensors will be installed in 2018, with tests and commissioning as soon as the POPS-B are connected.
  • Regarding the set-up in building 245, the electronics are all there except for the marker frequency generators.

Comments

  • B. Mikulec asked if the new system will be ready for the technical stop in September 2017, so that there is some margin for testing before the YETS. After the meeting, M. Buzio agreed to do his best to have the system ready for October 2017.
  • K. Hanke pointed out that the old MPS should be connected to the B-train system in building 361 for the first years of operation.
  • It was discussed that the feedback RF signal will only be needed from the inner and upper rings, not from all the rings in parallel.
  • M. E. Angoletta will prepare the firmware upgrade needed for the tests for deployment during ITS3.

AOB

Concerning the tour de table:

  • J. D. Devine communicated that a CDR (Conceptual Design Report) draft will be ready by the end of July 2017 from consolidation of the lighting system.
  • D. Carloni reported that the drafting of the safety files for the PSB is ongoing, done together with J. Hansen and W. Weterings.
  • M. E. Angoletta commented that the deployment of the new noise phase loop will be done during the next YETS.
  • F. Schmidt reported that work on chromaticity, scrapers and transmission lines is ongoing.

Next LIU-PSB meeting18th of July 2017, update on the PSB transfer line integration by Wolfgang Bartmann and Benoit Riffaud.
