Description

LHCb-UK Annual Meeting

4th & 5th January 2018

Kelvin Building, University of Glasgow, UK

The 2018 LHCb-UK Annual Meeting follows previous LHCb-UK meetings, celebrating the achievements of the collaboration and looking forward to prospects for the coming 12 months.

A comprehensive and interesting programme of presentations is planned with contributions from across the LHCb analysis working groups. There will also be opportunities to discuss the preparation of the Upgrade and consider how the UK should focus its physics efforts. As is traditional at these meetings, priority will be given to junior members of the collaboration who wish to highlight their work.

The meeting will take place over two days, starting on Thursday 4th where lunch will start from 12:30pm and will take place in the physics common room in the Kelvin Building. This will be followed by two presentation sessions starting at 1:30pm in room 257. On Thursday evening, the collaboration dinner will take place near the university. Two morning sessions on Friday will conclude the meeting with a finishing time expected to be around 1pm. A closed session for the steering board is expected that afternoon from 2pm-4pm.

Registration will close on the 15th December so that numbers for catering and the collaboration dinner can be determined in adequate time. There is no registration fee however. Those attending are encouraged to book accommodation in Glasgow as soon as possible.

Student prize talk: Real-time alignment of the LHCb VELO and observation of charmless baryonic decays $B \to p\overline{p}hh'$ 15m

The prize committee recognised Giulio's significant physics analysis work, his major contributions to the experiment and his excellent thesis. Giulio made major contributions to the real-time alignment of the vertex detector, which are essential for the success of LHCb data-taking in Run II and beyond. He also carried out a search for four-body charmless baryonic B meson decays, resulting in the first observation of three new decay modes.
