Directions to the Venue

Arrangements for getting to CERN and to the meeting room, including maps, are summarised below.  Please note the following:

  • All participants should bring their passport or identity card, and have it to hand when attempting to access the site or collect a visitor card.

  • Please allow at least 20 minutes at CERN to get to the meeting room.

Getting to CERN

Please see How to Get to CERN for full details.

Public transport timetables are available from TPG.

From the Airport

If you are travelling by public transport straight from the airport, please take one of the following options:

  • Bus Y towards Val-Thoiry: this is direct to CERN (but not very frequent)
  • Bus 23, 28 or 57 (towards Carouge/Les Esserts/ZIMEYSA-Gare), changing at Blandonnet to tram 18 (direct to CERN)
  • Bus 10 (towards Rive), changing at Bouchet to tram 18 (direct to CERN)

Free public transport tickets are available from machines in the baggage reclaim area.

From the Station

  • Take tram 18 direct to CERN

Entering CERN

On Foot

The bus/tram stop for CERN is between Reception and the Globe. The main entrance for cars and pedestrians (Entrance B) is a short distance away (towards the border) on the same side of the road as Reception.

  • If you have not been told otherwise, please go to Entrance B with a piece of ID, and tell them that you are attending the FCC Conductor Development Workshop.  They will have a list of participants and should allow you to enter the site.
  • Individual visitor cards have been arranged for a few participants. In this case, please go to Reception with your ID to collect your card. (You will be contacted directly if this applies to you: typically if you booked, or attempted to book, accommodation in the CERN hotel).
  • If you have a long term access card, you can of course enter directly.

Please see below for directions to the meeting venue.

By Shuttle

In the morning, a shuttle service leaves from the car park next to the Globe, serving destinations in CERN's Meyrin site including the meeting venue (building 30).  Departure times are 08:15, 08:35, 08:55 and 09:15 only.

You can only use the shuttle service if you have a valid access card.  If you would like to use the shuttle and you expect to arrive in time for one of these departure times, please contact us.

By Car

If you are arriving by car and do not need to drive into the site, you can park in the car park next to the Globe.  The barriers will normally allow only one day of parking: on the second day of the workshop, you may need to present your visitor card/badge at Reception to be allowed entry.

If you want to drive inside CERN to the meeting venue, you must provide your vehicle's registration number in advance.  You should then be able to enter via Entrance B.

Directions to the Meeting Rooms

The plenary and closed sessions, coffee breaks and lunches are all held in building 30 or adjoining buildings.  This building is near the water tower, which is visible from most of the site.  A suggested route (suitable for cars and pedestrians) is shown in the map below.

On arrival, please go to the auditorium on floor 7 of building 30.  In the vicinity of buildings 30 and 112, signs will be displayed.
