Irwin Sheer

Retired

 

Irwin Sheer received his PhD in 1983 from the University of California, Riverside for his work at CERN on the UA1 experiment. He also collaborated on two other High Energy Physics experiments, L3 at CERN and GEM at the SSC, before beginning his second career in Finance. Dr. Sheer worked in Finance for over 20 years before retiring to Sedona, AZ in 2015. He began his finance career at Timber Hill Inc. (a.k.a. Interactive Brokers) and after a few years he moved to BlackRock Inc. where he spent the remainder of his Finance career. During his tenure at BlackRock he was responsible for co-heading the Financial Modeling Group and later heading the Software Engineering Group.


                                                                       

                               

Luis del Pozo

Luis del Pozo completed an experimental physics PhD at Cambridge University and was a fellow and then post-doc at CERN. He moved to the finance industry in 1998 and worked in several Geneva private banks in the fields of IT, trading, risk and treasury. He is now a management consultant with Capco where he leads teams to deliver change; creating and introducing new products, processes and operating models from front to back-offices. He has particularly deep expertise on trading products, markets, risk-measures and regulations and advises clients on Innovation, digital banking and all things data.


      

 

Maneesh Wadhwa 

Head Innovation Management

 

 

Maneesh Wadhwa has 17 years of experience in financial services. He is presently Head Innovation Management at SIX Swiss Exchange and is part of the team responsible for the strategy development. The innovation team aims to create new and viable products, services or business models. Maneesh manages employee innovation program, work close with FinTech Startups and Universities.  He has lead Culture Change workshops with top management to develop action plan to achieve a revised culture, fostering SIX Swiss Exchange Vision, Strategy and Values.  Prior to joining SIX Swiss Exchange, he spent 12 years working at L3 Experiment at CERN. He has a doctorate degree in Physics from Savoie University, France.


 

 

Massimiliano Chiorboli

Vice President,
Knowledge Discovery Analyst

 

After obtaining his PhD in Physics at the University of Catania in 2003, Massimiliano Chiorboli then worked in the CMS experiment with the University of Catania, INFN, Caltech and CERN. In 2011 he moved to Deram, a software company specialized in products for banks and trading agencies. In 2017 he moved to JP Morgan, where he integrated the Big Data team, taking care of the infrastructure and the data of the Big Data platform.

 


 

 

Pratibha  Vikas

Group Head Operational
Risk Management

 

Pratibha Vikas started her career as an experimental particle physicist and spent 13 years at CERN in Geneva. She was a Ph.D. student on L3 and worked as a postdoc on Opal and CMS experiments. Following her experience at CERN, Pratibha moved from fundamental research to the world of Finance. She now has over 15 years’ experience in risk management in financial institutions. Pratibha joined Zurich in June 2016 as Head of Operational Risk Framework and was appointed to her current role in September 2016. Ms Vikas was selected to the Board of the Swiss Risk Association in 2016. She leads the Operational Risk chapter in this capacity.


 

Rami Kamalieddin

PhD Student at UNL, CERN Finance Club Administrator

 

 

After obtaining an MS in biomaterials, Rami became interested in particle physics. Since then Rami has received an MS in experimental particle physics. After participating in several important CMS measurements, currently Rami is working on finishing his PhD at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. An interest in how financial market works, having many friends moved to finance, and the desire to test acquired data science skills outside of physics led Rami to join the CERN Finance club, where now he serves as an administrator.


Spyridon

 

Spyridon Papadopoulos 

 

 

Spyridon Papadopoulos completed his MEng in Electrical and Computer Engineering, an MSc in Telecommunications and worked as a wireless engineering consultant before joining CERN as a Marie Curie fellow in 2009. After leaving CERN and completing his PhD in Optical Networks and Photonic Devices at UCL in 2013, he joined Credit Suisse as a quantitative analyst. He worked on market risk and model risk, focusing on derivative pricing models for the equities and credit business. In 2016, he moved to Deutsche Bank where he currently works as a model risk quant, covering Asset and Wealth Management models.
