TOPONOMASTIC WARNING

Both the workshop venue and one of the suggested hotels are located in "Calle Federico García Lorca". Up to a year ago, that same road was called "Calle Calvo Sotelo", and is possible that in some websites or GPS applications the new name of the road is not listed yet.

TRAVEL

The nearest airport is the Aeropuerto de Asturias (OVD/LEAS). From the airport, the city center is easily reachable:

  • By bus (30-40 minutes. Fare is 9 €): right outside of the airport building, go right and take the hourly bus with destination "Oviedo". Through the website https://www.alsa.com/en/web/bus/home you will be able to check all the details. When scheduling your return/arrival, please take into account that the last bus ride from the airport is around 23:00, and similarly from Oviedo. Check before you book your flights, otherwise you might have to take a taxi.
  • By taxi (fare: around 50 €): right outside of the airport building.
  • Rental service (inside the airport building): the available rental services at the airport are described at http://www.aena.es/en/asturias-airport/car-rental.html

There are other airports with international connections that are located in the surronding regions of Asturias. The one with a reasonable travel time to Oviedo is the Aeropuerto de Santander - Seve Ballesteros (SDR/LEXJ) in Cantabria. Others, but with larger travel times to Asturias (and Oviedo) are the ones from Galicia (the most relevant the Aeropuerto de Santiago de Compostela, SCQ/LEST) or the airport of the Basque Country (the Aeropuerto de Bilbao, BIO/LEBB).

From those airports there are bus connections with the capitals of those regions (Santander, Santiago de Compostela and Bilbao respectively). In the case of the Aeropuerto de Santander - Seve Ballesteros, the bus departs from the airport's terminal every half hour and takes ~10 minutes to arrive to the Santander Bus Station.

Once there, the connection with Oviedo is strongly recommended to be made by bus. There is a train line (commonly known as FEVE) that connects all the northern regions of Spain, though the infrastructure and conditions of it are unfortunately in very bad shape. The company that operates all the interregional bus lines with Oviedo and Asturias is ALSA (https://www.alsa.com/en/web/bus/home). The duration of the trip is of ~2-3h for Santander-Oviedo.

Also for the case of the Aeropuerto de Santander - Seve Ballesteros, there is a line (although with few buses every day) that links the airport with Oviedo directly. It is operated by ALSA as well.

Other options are:

  • By train: Due to the status of the railway infrastructure the connection by train to Asturias is only feasible from Madrid. The "Alvia" service operated by RENFE (http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/) links the station of Madrid - Chamartín with the main train station of Oviedo in roughly ~04:30h with four services per day. The station of Madrid - Chamartín can be reached from the main airport of Aeropuerto de Adolfo Suárez Madrid - Barajas (MAD/LEMD) by the "Cercanías" (commuter) trains (http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/cercanias/madrid/index.html).

  • By bus: The main company that operates long-distance lines is ALSA (https://www.alsa.com/en/web/bus/home), linking places outside Asturias with the bus station of Oviedo.

ACCOMODATION

There is quite a good number of hotels around the city center, at walking distance from the Facultad de Ciencias.

  • Hotel "Ramiro I" (****): the hotel is exactly in front of the workshop venue. Single and double rooms are available for 55 and 70 €, respectively (prices valid until Oct 28, 2018). If interested, please fill this form and send it to ramiro@ayrehoteles.com
