ORIGIN in the Balkans
Split organisation:
1. Teacher's day: will meet at the beginning of the week, as there was no ramping up like in Canada -> trained as "ambassadors" of the program in their schools. List of "reading links" prepared for Toronto will be migrated to the web site + bookmark with QR code redone.
2. Art-Science public event: no plan for a large scale public lectures evening, as it was already done in Split and organisation is too heavy. It is too early for a University talk (still in vacation). Go instead for an evening round-table about art & science, on either Thursday or Friday evening. Will be advertised and open to public.
3. Schools: will visit the exhibit at the end of the week. Foresee lectures, enough local scientists to give introductions to schools in their language . Possibility to add English tours - for the public - by conference scientists who do not speak Croatian, once or twice per day.
4. Tourists: will be caught by large banners on the conference building. Shown to be very efficient last time (included in local guides tours). Science café ?
5. Shipping: Michael's material is ~ 5 m3. Itinerary to be finalised asap.
6. Setup: ATLAS new input is discussed. No extra poster allowed, go instead for plastified A4 photos on a black tablecloth. Labels have to be produced for all: blank with the origin logo, will put hand-written comments
7. Workshops: interferometer to be discussed next week (Chiara will be in Italy)
---> Action list for CERN based people: integrate reading list in web site; redo bookmark and labels with Origin logo; week planning & setup draft to be discussed next week in a special meeting (see date below).
Longer term news:
- Alice joins ORIGIN, will be present at Split
- Contacts successfully established with Adelaide ATLAS group for CHEP (4-8 Nov 2019). Outreach event "a la Sofia" is granted, can add subset of origin material if a sponsor is found. Claire will follow up with CERN and BNL (a special budget line was created for the ATLAS Origin contribution, but it does not allow more that a bit of travelling and bits and pieces material).
- Very early contacts with LHCP conference organisers (Mexico, 20-25 May 2019). The fact that ALICE joins will help a lot, as local institute is ALICE. To be discussed with them @Split.
Next meeting: Wednesday sept 5, 9am (to avoid the Jeune Genevois)
