Communications

LIU Project Team Meeting

  • An LIU dedicated event will be held the week of the 11th February 2019 and tentatively lasting couple of days outside of CERN, where the three main pillars of discussion will be:
    • The LIU beam parameter reach and the HL-LHC request.
    • LS2 planning and work advancement.
    • Plans for post-LS2 beam commissioning.
  • Twenty-seven ECRs remain to be approved for LIU, five of which for LIU-PSB have not been circulated yet.
  • A first internal review was held concerning the impact of the de-cabling and cabling campaigns for the Linac4-to-PSB connection, in particular for the Linac4 run in 2019. There might be an issue with some lighting cables during the lock-out period since they are connected to a PS power supply. This topic is being followed-up.
  • The LS2 days will take place the 9th -10th of October 2018, where all the LIU activities will be addressed individually in the presentation from each group. J. Coupard will discuss the general schedule including all LIU activities.
  • G. P. Di Giovanni reminded that the carry forward of the money not spent in 2018 will not be automatic and to please make sure that the EVM is up to date, as well as the schedule.

TE-VSC activities and status (J. A. Ferreira Somoza)

J. A. Ferreira Somoza summarized the activities of TE-VSC for the LIU-PSB by area:

BI line

  • The new vacuum chambers for the BI.QNO30 and BI.QNO40 quadrupoles are currently being designed.
  • The vacuum chamber for the new pick-up is ready for production.
  • The BI.BVT10 and the new manifold vacuum chambers are in stock.

BT line

  • The BT.DVT/BVT10 is in production. They need to produce the transitions of the pick-up. Some input from BE-BI is still needed.
  • The new vacuum chambers for the BT.QNO40 and BT.QNO50 are in production.
  • The BT.BHZ10 vacuum chamber is in stock.
  • The support for the manifold does not allow for vertical alignment and resulted in a 1cm gap with the BT.KFA10. A new support with vertical alignment will be put in place.

BTM line

  • All the vacuum chambers are in stock.

BTP line

  • Everything is under production.
  • There is a possible gap between the last pick-up and the next vacuum chamber (~10 mm space between the two flanges). The issue is being discussed with the integration group. It should not be a major showstopper as in case the BPM can be move the 10 mm upstream.

PSB ring

  • Everything is in stock for the injection area.
  • Concerning the extraction area, an ECR was sent for approval and everything is in production.
  • Concerning the Finement cavities, there was one batch of non-conforming flanges that have been re-ordered. There was a defect on the angle, which increases the chances of leaking. Additionally, there was a mistake on the placement of the order so there is one support missing.
  • The replacement chambers for periods 6 and 10 are under production.

Budget

  • There will be a budget review next Thursday.
  • Most of the works currently consist on mechanical assembly drawings and it is difficult to know when they will be charged.
  • Concerning the mechanical assembly drawings, the budget allocated might be
  • short. The open jobs already open will be finished, but there is yet no clear responsibility for the production of 3D models of the old lines.

Comments

  • J. A. Ferreira Somoza commented that it is not clear who will pay for the mechanical assembly drawings, who will produce the 3D models, and who will update all the information at the end of LS2. TE-VSC was already asked to pay for some extra 3D models but had to refuse as the cost was too high for their current budget envelope. G.P. Di Giovanni recalled that this is a CERN-wide question, not only restricted to LIU and it should be discussed by the management.
  • B. Mikulec asked about the general schedule. J. A. Ferreira Somoza answered that they don’t expect any delays.
  • G. P. Di Giovanni asked if the budget is within their envelope. J. A. Ferreira Somoza answered that there are no problems budget-wise.
